This print was inspired by the poem ‘The New Colossus’ by Emma Lazarus, which is the poem that’s inscribed on the Statue of Liberty. I loved the power of those words and wanted to highlight them, so I kept the print simple in black and white, with a pop of color to represent her torch. The typography is dynamic, so you can find different meanings and emphasis on each new read. While the audience may be different now from when the poem was first written, the words and intention still ring true to me. I'd like to believe we're a better country than we are currently showing, and we can recover from the damage that's currently being done to those of us who are marginalized.
